KARACHI: NGOs concerned over doctors killing

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, March 15: Various non-governmental organisations have expressed concern over the targeted killing of the doctors in the city and have urged the government take effective steps to check it.

In a statement, Anis Haroon, Zahratul Fatima, Safina Jawed and Hidayat Narejo of the Aurat Foundation and Women Action Forum expressed solidarity with doctors who had been forced to suspend their professional activities.

Calling for a broad-based networking involving all segments of society, they demanded that effective steps be taken to curb the present wave of violence let loose against the medical practitioners.

AKU: Doctors and staff of the Aga Khan University assembled on the campus on Friday to express solidarity with physicians’ community, adds APP.

They condemned the recurring target killings of doctors and voiced concerns over their safety.

A similar assembly had taken place on the campus on Wednesday to express concern about the ongoing violence against doctors in the city.

This assembly took place after the Faculty of Health Sciences held a meeting in support of doctors and urged the government to maintain law and order in the country.
