KHAIRPUR, Mar 12: The District Council of Khairpur has opposed the construction of greater Thal canal and termed it against Sindh.

In its meeting held here on Tuesday and presided over by convener Sher Mohammad Phulpoto, the issue was debated at length.

The members of the council said that since the people of Sindh were against the project it should be dropped in the best interests of the province.

Through another resolution, the council condemned the killings of Muslims in India.

Meanwhile the opposition group boycotted the session.

Speaking at a press conference the opposition members said that the session was to start at 10am, but the same was delayed deliberately by the district Nazim and it could not be started til l2pm.

The opposition group which was led by Pir Mashooq Shah, Abdul Aziz Bhambhro and Nisar Bhambhro alleged that the session was delayed to avoid a resolution from opposition members regarding misappropriation in the district government funds.

PROCESSION: Hundreds of growers of taluka Kingri took out a procession near Kolab Jail at the tail of Faiz Wah here on Tuesday.

The procession was led by Abdul Majeed Arain.

Speaking at the gathering Mr Arain said though there was no water and crop, the growers were forced to pay revenue and abiana.

He demanded of the governor to specially look into the matter and announce a relief package for the growers.
