40 trawlers seized in Balochistan

By Our Staff Correspondent

QUETTA, March 12: The Balochistan Coastal Develop-ment Authority (BCDA) has seized 40 Karachi-based trawlers, found using prohibited nets for fishing, along the Makran coast.

The licences issued to the Karachi-based fishermen for fishing along Balochistan waters were suspended by the authorities.

Sources in the Fishing Department said that the authority would launch an operation on Wednesday against the Karachi-based trawlers found using banned nets for fishing along the Balochistan coastline.

All patrolling boats have been asked to reach Gwadar for taking part in the massive operation against illegal fishing.

The action in this connection was launched on the complaints of the local fishermen, who informed the director-general of the BCDA on Monday that a large number of Karachi-based trawlers were using prohibited nets, harmful for marine life, in Balochistan waters.
