By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, March 11: Various non-governmental organizations on Monday demanded restoration of original premises to the women’s police station.

They further demanded to immediately reopen three out of the four women police cells in various districts of the city which had been closed down.

These demands were made at a meeting of the civil society organiztaions and NGOs, which was organized by War Against Rape. The meeting was also attended by representatives of Aurat Foundation, Shirkat Gah, Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, Amnesty International, Idara Amn-o-Insaf and others.

At present the city has only one women police station and even there an FIR could be registered after taking permission from the senior superintendent of police.

They said the women police station was shifted to a smaller premises where its staff of over 60 constables and officials could hardly be accommodated.

The three women police cells, which did not have the power to register an FIR, had been working in Malir, East, West and were closed down. At present only one women cell is working in SITE area, they added.
