Blair faces revolt over US plan to attack Iraq

By Amanullah Ghilzai

LONDON, March 7: The full British Cabinet on Thursday served notice on Prime Minister Tony Blair that he could face open revolt if he takes Britain into war against Iraq in backing the recent US policy against Saddam Hussain.

The type of division the British government is facing on a renewed military action against Iraq is rare in the recent political history of the country.

The prime minister has been warned that he must not commit British forces without a clear political base and a clear exit plan.

The Leader of the Commons, and a senior Labour leader Robin Cook, made the doubts public shortly after the Cabinet ended here.

He said: “No decision has been taken. No decision may ever be taken.”
