US-led war useless: Zahir

ROME, March 7: The exiled king of Afghanistan denounced the US-led war on terror in his country as “stupid and useless” in an interview with Italian daily La Stampa published on Thursday.

Mohamed Zaher Shah, who is due to return in two weeks for a meeting of tribal elders to decide the future of the war-torn nation, told the paper the campaign should be called off.

“It is a stupid and useless war and it would be better to stop it immediately,” the 87-year-old said. “My people have always fought for freedom and democracy.—AFP
