119 BHUs without doctors

VEHARI, March 7: There is not a single doctor working in 119 basic health units (BHUs) of the district.

Contracts of the doctors posted at these centres had expired about a month ago. No attempt was made by the health department to renew their contracts or make fresh appointments.

Meanwhile, people of the ‘affected’ areas demanded of the health authorities to appoint docotrs at these units to provide health facilities to the masses.

MURDER: A woman was killed by her husband over suspicion of bad character in Chak 51/WB.

Hanifa Bibi had reportedly developed illicit relation with a man of the same village. Her husband Nasir asked her to mend her ways but all in vain.

On Wednesday, Nasir attacked on Hanifa with a knife killing her on the spot. He is still at large.

WOMAN KIDNAPPED: A newly-married woman was kidnapped allegedly by three people here on Wednesday from Bakir Shah village who also looted gold ornaments and other valuables worth Rs100,000.

Ghulam Yasin told police that Allah Ditta, Noor Muhammad and Shaukat Ali kidnapped his wife Zahoor Bibi when he was not at home. The accused also took away jewellery and other valuables.

Police are investigating.

BANK ROBBERS HELD: Four robbers who looted a bank last month have been arrested.

This was claimed by Vehari SSP Dr Jamil while talking to Dawn here on Wednesday.

He said Rs600,000 in cash, a car, two motorcycles, and a gun was recovered from their possession.

The SSP said Ghulam Murtaza alias Murti, Mazhar alias Mazri, Amjad and Arshad robbed a bank on Gurudawara Road on Feb 8 and took away Rs893,000 at gunpoint.
