Riasat outwits fancied Sabir


KARACHI, March 5: Riasat Ali Nazim upset second seeded player and National Master (NM) Sabir Khan in the second round Friendship House Chess Tournament at Russian Cultural Centre Monday.

Riasat displayed an outstanding positional cum tactical play and kept Sabir under pressure throughout. The game continued for two and half hour and Riasat forced his opponent to resign.

International Masters (IM) Shahzad Mirza, Rahat Ali, A.Q.Shakoor, Nadeem Aziz and Riasat Ali maintained their top position by securing their second point in as many matches in the seven-round swiss contest.

SECOND ROUD RESULTS:

Shahzad Mirza bt Siraj Ansari, Rahat Ali bt Jamil Ahmed, A.Q. Shakoor bt Tahir Qayyum, Nadeem Aziz bt Imtiaz-ul- Haque, Prof. S.H.R. Zaidi bt Mumtaz Ali, Salahuddin bt Jamal Hasan, Shahzad Ahmed bt M. Younus, Irshad Ali bt Yasir, Misbahuddin bt Rashid Ali.
