KARACHI, March 5: An Afghan couple was killed by unknown assailants in their house in Afghan Camp No 2, Surjani Town, early on Tuesday.

Police said unknown assailants sneaked into the victim’s house in the Afghan Basti and using sharp-edged and blunt weapons killed the couple.

Qari Kamal, 60, was killed by a sharp-edged weapon, while his 55-year-old wife Gulnar’s head was smashed by a blunt weapon, a duty officer at the Surjani Town police station said.

People of the area informed the police after they found the bodies in the house.

Both the victims were professional baggers. Kamal was blind. The bodies were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for postmortem.

Initial investigations showed that the killing was apparently a result of some old enmity. The police said they were facing a lot of difficulty in the investigation as they were depending on interpreters for gathering information.

A man was killed and another injured in a dispute at a eating house in Kharadar on Tuesday night.

Police said unknown persons opened fire at Shahid Alam, 28, and Khalid, 30, outside a eating house in Kharadar and fled.

After the firing, police mobile reached the spot and shifted the injured to Civil Hospital. Shahid died after reaching the hospital, while Khalid, who had received a single bullet in his leg, was hospitalized. Till filing of this report no arrests had been made.
