KARACHI, March 5: In order to maintain law and order and to review security arrangements during Muharram-ul-Haram, a meeting was held here Tuesday under the chairmanship of Nazim Karachi, Naimatullah Khan.
The meeting was attended, among others, by DCO Shafiqur Rehman Paracha, City Capital Police Chief Asad Jehangir, DIG Operations, Tariq Jamil, DIG Traffic Saud Mirza, Town Nazims and other concerned officers.
It was decided in the meeting that Town Nazims and concerned town police officers will maintain a close liaison and make joint efforts for maintenance of law and order and other security measures.
Addressing the meeting, Nazim Karachi Naimatullah Khan said as far as sanitary conditions were concerned, Eid-ul-Azha had been a test for the existing setup and for the maintenance of law; and order during Muharram, it would have to play the same role. For this purpose, the elected representatives and police officers would make collective efforts.
He said routes for Ashura processions have been determined. The Town Nazims would issue permission for local processions in consultation with their respective town police officers while the City Government would issue permission for main and major processions and Majalis.
He asked the elected representatives to play their vigorous role during Muharramul Haram and establish an environment of brotherhood.
The Nazim said that the police have been directed to remain in close contact with the public representatives.
The Nazim was informed that from March 1, a separate control room has been established in each town and now the Town Nazims would have the facility of maintaining contact with the respective town police officers. They would be able to have a speedy contact through control room.
