HYDERABAD, March 2: Zila Nazim Dr Makhdoom Rafiquzzaman has called for coordinated efforts of various departments to ensure that every child in the district under five be administered polio drops.

He was presiding over a meeting of the health department at the Shahbaz hall on Friday.

The meeting finalized arrangements for Polio Immunization Campaign in the district from March 5 to 7.

Referring to the ensuing campaign, the district Nazim said that it was essential that the taluka Nazims and councillors of the area should be consulted regarding various teams constituted by the health department, and added that a proper monitoring system should also be ensured.

He said that parents should be asked to ensure that no child under five was left out.

He said that from March 1 the Pesh Imams of mosques would make announcements regarding it after prayers.

He also directed the officials of the education department to compile the date of the immunized students.

He asked the health department officials to work with dedication so that the target set for the district was achieved.

Earlier, the EDO (Health), Dr Qadir Bux Memon informed the district Nazim and WHO representatives present in the meeting about the coverage percentage which he said was 108 per cent.

Some 668,000 children would be provided polio drops in Hyderabad District for which the provincial health department had constituted 1,632 teams to be headed by eight taluka supervisors and 34 zonal supervisors.

The overall in charge of the campaign will be the EDO (health) who will be assisted by the DOH, Hyderabad, and the WHO consultant.
