KARACHI: BSE’s failure to deliver admit cards irks students
KARACHI, Feb 28: A number of enraged candidates aspiring to appear in the SSC examinations of the Karachi Board of Secondary Education commencing from March 1, pelted the Board Office with stones on Thursday, smashing the windowpanes at the first floor of the building, an official of the Board said.
He said that the personnel of the law enforcement agencies dispersed the candidates who were protesting against the non- issuance of admit cards.
The BSEK official said that the Board had issued communications to the heads of the institutions before February 23 to the effect that they should collect the admit cards by sending their representatives with authority letters. Instead they sent the students to collect the cards and that created problems.
He said that the number of candidates was increasing every year, whereas there was a shortage of staff at the Board; there was also a ban on overtime which had further affected the output.
BSEK chairman, Mohammad Aziz Ansari, however, said in press conference that all the arrangements had been completed for the conduct of SSC examinations for regular and private candidates, commencing from March 1.
He said as many as 303 examinations centres had been set up in and around Karachi; one of them at the Karachi Central Jail to facilitate imprisoned candidates.
Ansari said that the principal secretary to the governor, the provincial secretary of education, the secretary home department and the heads of law enforcement agencies had been apprised of the details of the examination centres and the date sheets.
He said that emergency and vigilance squads had also been set up. Five special vigilance teams consisting of retired and in-service grade 20 officers would undertake surprise visits to examination centres.
He said that officials of law enforcement agencies, including the director general rangers, the IGP Sindh, the DIG Karachi and the DCO Karachi had been asked to make necessary security arrangements.
He said that all the schools had been directed to release admit cards of candidates having 60 per cent attendance and eight private and public schools had been blacklisted for their past record in connection with examinations.—APP\PPI
