KARACHI, Feb 25: Nasrullah Khan, well-known journalist and playwright, died on Feb 23 in the US where he had been residing for the past several years. He was 83.
He is survived by two sons and four daughters.
The late Mr Khan began his journalistic career with Maulana Zafar Ali Khan’s daily Zamindaar which played an important role as the voice of the Muslims, during the freedom struggle. After the creation of Pakistan, he shifted to Karachi and worked for Radio Pakistan and Urdu newspapers. He excelled in humour and was associated for a long time with Dawn Group’s Urdu daily, Hurriyet, as a columnist. A collection of his writings was published a few years ago under the title, Baat se baat.
He wrote and adapted a number of plays for Radio Pakistan. One of them, Lighthouse ke Muhafiz, which had only two characters both of which were played by Z. A. Bukhari, became very popular and was broadcast repeatedly.
He was also an educationist, and was among the founders of the Happy Dale School, Karachi.
