KARACHI: Poor lighting arrangement at Liaquat flyover
KARACHI, Feb 25: Though Liaquatabad and Gulberg Towns have taken a number of steps to facilitate motorists on Sharea Pakistan, the City Government is yet to ensure proper lighting at Liaquat flyover and at Sharea Pakistan from Karimabad to Ayesha Manzil.
It is most unfortunate to observe that Pakistan’s longest bridge was opened to the public in April last year, but more than 100 halogen bulbs at Liaquat flyover and its entry ramp are still non-functional.
Darkness, coupled with flashing headlights of vehicles coming opposite side, create hardship for drivers, motorists and even pedestrians.
The situation worsened during the last one week as those interested in purchasing sacrificial animals had to go to the cattle market at Sohrab Goth.
To facilitate commuters coming from different roads to main Sharea Pakistan, Liaquatabad Town has installed heavy halogen lamps on four sides of Post Office roundabout and about a dozen of them under the bridge at Liaquatabad No.10.
With the erection of these poles, the roundabout has illuminated facilitating the traffic coming from Nazimabad, Sindhi Hotel and those on both sides of Sharea Pakistan.
Installation of these halogen lights and another one at roundabout of Nazimabad No 7 was planned and executed by Liaquatabad town within a span of few weeks which shows that only will is required at Works and Services department of the City Government to make lamps at Liaquat flyover working.
Similarly keeping in view the heavy rush of traffic, the Gulberg town made special arrangements for cleanliness at Waterpump and Sohrab Goth roundabouts to clear soft dust and garbage from there.
Gulberg town has also established camps in cooperation with traffic police at Sohrab Goth to maintain traffic flow.
Whereas, accumulation of dust, straw and garbage can be witnessed on corners of road all the way at Liaquatabad flyover.—PPI
