Lashkar-i-Jhangvi activist arrested

BAHAWALPUR, Feb 22: CIA police on Friday claimed they had arrested an activist of the Lashkar-i-Jhangvi, a banned sectarian outfit.

Police said Asghar Ali had provided shelter to the assailants of DSP Syed Kausar Abbas Gilani who was gunned down in Bahawalpur stadium during jogging last year.

Police said that alleged DSP killers had been identified and they would soon be apprehended.

Meanwhile, the arrested hitman, Abdullah Jan, a former SSP patron, had admitted his involvement in the bomb blast at Shia Jamia Masjid some six months ago where nine people were killed.

SMASHED: CIA police on Friday claim to have smashed a gang of dacoits and robbers and arrested its five members.

Police said the gang members had been active in various parts of the Bahawalpur district and other areas of the southern Punjab.

A source said the arrested, include dentist Mudassar Hussain and a close relative of a former MNA, but the police refused to disclose his name.

Police also recovered stolen property worth thousands of rupees and illicit arms from their possession.

HIGH PRICES: Sacrificial animals are available in the local market at prices much higher than the previous year.

People throng the market but after knowing the prices, they return empty handed waiting for the next day with fade hopes of decline in prices.

EID PRAYERS: Eid prayers will be held at about three dozen open places, parks, playgrounds and mosques in the city.

The main Eid congregation will be held at the central Eidgah.
