Jiang urges Bush to back Pakistan

BEIJING, Feb 21: Chinese President Jiang Zemin on Thursday said in talks with US President George W. Bush the United States should support efforts by Pakistan to improve relations with India, a Chinese spokesman said.

“Jiang called on the US to support the efforts of Pakistan to seek dialogue and peace,” foreign ministry spokesman Kong Quan informed a briefing.

“It’s China’s belief that restoration of peace and stability on the Sub-continent will contribute to peace and stability not only in the region, but in the world at large,” Kong said.—AFP
