RAWALPINDI, Feb 21: Renowned scientists of the Centre for European Nuclear Research, Switzerland, (CERN) have appraised the skills and knowledge of the students of Nust Institute of Information Technology for contributing towards the collaborative research work with CERN for almost 18 months.

As an acknowledgement of this work and a thorough review of their academic profile, the students of Nust have been extended an invitation to join CERN for one year as research fellows.

According to a press release, this is the latest success story in a relatively young relationship between CERN and Nust.

CERN, a European organization for nuclear research, is the world’s largest particle physics centre. The fundamental research carried out at CERN has led to a number of innovations in areas of medical imaging, radiation therapy, power generation, non- destructive testing, sophisticated control systems and information technology.

The most recent contribution to the world was the invention of the worldwide web by Tim Berners-Lee and Robert Cailliau.

The associate institutes of CERN take part in collaborative research and include top tier academic institutes such as MIT, John Hopkins University, Standford, Cal-tech and other American as well as European top class academic and research institutions.

The press release added that Nust was proud of its affiliation with CERN as an associate institute and had progressive plans to carry out significant work in distributed computing, databases, networks and the new grid computing paradigm.
