LAHORE, Feb 21: The Traffic Engineering and Transport Planning Agency (Tepa) of the Lahore Development Authority will develop a software to control the city traffic from one centre.
The decision to centralize the traffic control system of the city by using computer technology was taken at a meeting of the executive district officers here on Thursday.
Presided over by District Nazim Mian Amer Mahmood, the meeting also decided to transfer the maintenance of streetlights and traffic signals of the provincial metropolis to Tepa with immediate effect.
The Nazim was informed that 87 road development projects funded from the Khushhal Pakistan Programme had been completed. Of the 16 projects started by the former Metropolitan Corporation of Lahore 12 had been completed.
Mian Amer said that LDA’s Water and Sanitation Agency and former MCL’s Solid Waste Management wing would be merged by June 30.
Several designs for beautification of the entry points to the provincial metropolis were also examined at the meeting attended by District Coordination Officer Tariq Shafi Chak as well.
JUBILEE TOWN: Mian Amer visited the Jubilee Town to distribute cheques among the farmers whose lands had been acquired for the scheme.
The Nazim was informed that preparations were under way for the development of a technology village nearby for the displaced people.
A 400-kanal expo centre of international standard was also proposed to be developed in Johar Town.
Mian Amer said that Lahore was the central city of Pakistan and international commercial and technological organizations were taking keen interest in establishing their centres here.
The opportunity to develop Lahore as the technology centre of Asia should not be wasted. The LDA should develop world class infrastructure in the provincial metropolis for attracting foreign investment in IT sector.
