ISLAMABAD, Feb 20: Khalid Ahmed Chaudhry, the organizer of Qaumi Jamhoori Party Northern Punjab, has said that residents of Kutcha Abadis should also be provided basic amenities of life after being given proprietary rights.

He said no resident of a Kutcha Abadi should be evicted from his house without being provided an alternative place to reside. He termed it unjustifiable that Kutcha Abadis were being demolished and people being evicted without provision of alternative housing arrangements.

Mr Ahmed appealed to President Gen Pervez Musharraf and Punjab Governor Lt-Gen (Rtd) Khalid Maqbool to stop the action being taken against Kutcha Abadis.

The QJP leader urged the two leaders to ensure implementation of the government’s policy with regard to Kutcha Abadis and redress the grievances of Kutcha Abadi residents and other shelterless people.

Meanwhile, the People’s Right Movement has decided to arrange a forum in collaboration with the All Pakistan Alliance for Kutcha Abadis, at a local hotel on February 28, to discuss the problems of Kutchi Abadis’ residents. The meeting will be attended by representatives of Kutcha Abadis and political parties, journalists, lawyers and representatives of other segments of the society.
