PFUJ opposes formation of press council

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Feb 20: Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists, on Tuesday said that ministry of information and media development was constituting press council to safeguard vested interests and to gage the voice of free press.

In a joint policy statement the PFUJ leadership pointed out that already more than 16 black laws designed to scuttle the voice of dissent were in force and in the presence of these laws the press council could act as military courts for journalists.

They said if the ministry was really sincere in promoting freedom of press it should enforce the access to information law.
