KARACHI: Women stage demo against KESC

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Feb 20: About 50 women from New Karachi staged a protest at the Aisha Manzil roundabout in Federal B. Area on Wednesday against the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation.

The women said that though the power utility had disconnected their electricity more than a month ago, they had been receiving power bills. The women, who had come to the roundabout in Suzuki pick-ups, blocked the Shahrah-i-Pakistan and chanted slogans against the KESC.

After three hours, the Naib Nazim of the Gulberg Town succeeded in persuading the women to go back and stage the protest in their area. They dispersed at around 5pm.

The women were holding placards and chanting slogans against the KESC officials and the elected representatives of their respective areas.

Their protest caused disruption in the smooth flow of vehicular traffic and the traffic was jammed on Shahrah-i-Pakistan for more than an hour.
