Argentinians share honours

LAHORE, Feb 19: Samsung Whites beat KFC Remounts 8-7 1/2 in the Aibak Cup polo tournament at the Lahore Polo Club Tuesday.

In another match, Samsung Blues won 10-6 1/2 against Powersoft -19.

Whites were well served by Ramiro Garros who scored four goals while Col. Pataudi and Asif Yar Tiwana added two goals each. For the losers, Toto Collardin fought hard scoring five goals, including a hat trick. Haseeb Mehta and Shahyar contributed one goal each. Half goal was the handicap.

Remounts led 6 1/2-1 at the end of the second chukker with Collardin scoring four goals. Whites started recovering in the third chukker scoring three goals one each through Garros, Col. Pataudi and Tiwana to reduce the lead to 4-6 1/2.

In the fourth chukker, Collardin completed his hat trick by scoring a field goal but it proved the last happy moment for Remounts as Garros displayed high form scoring three goals to change defeat into victory. Tiwana also scored one goal but Garros scored the match-winner in the last moments of the fourth chukker.

Diego Araya scored five goals included a hat trick to help Blues beat Powersoft-19 with big margin. Araya who scored two goals in the first chukker struck the hat trick by converting a 30-yard penalty in the second chukker.

Besides Araya the other scorers for the winners were Atif Yar Tiwana (3), Taimur Mawaz Khan and Faiz Rahim who added one goal each.

For Powersoft-19, Umer Sadik (2) and Arsalan Najib (1) reduced the margin. Three and a half goals was the handicap.
