Punjab clinch U-16 trophy

LAHORE, Feb 18: Two goals each by inside-right Ayesha Bashir and outside-right Rabia Qadir enabled Punjab to retain the Inter-provincial under-16 girls hockey championship, defeating Balochistan 6-0 in the last league match at the National Hockey Stadium Monday.

Punjab won all the three matches of the competition and scored nine points to win the championship. Balochistan with six points were the runners-up. Sindh with three points came in third.

Punjab took an aggressive start, scoring their first goal through Sabiha Mehmood in the 1st minute with Neelma Hussain doubling the lead in the 9th minute with a field goal.

Punjab maintained their pressure and scored their third goal when Ayesha Bashir scored her first goal in the 23rd minute to make it 3-0 at half time.

After breather, Ayesha crowned a solo effort to score her second goal which gave Punjab 4-0 lead.

Rabia who was also declared as best player of the championships, pumped in two goals one in the 51st minute and 60th minute to seal the fate of the Balochistan.

Earlier, three goals by spearhead Madiha Tanvir enabled Sindh to beat NWFP 3-0 to take the third position.

Sindh led 2-0 at the interval.

Madiha scored goals in the fourth, 25th and the 47th minute.
