THIS refers to the news item headlined “NRB envisages 26 provinces, repeal of 13th amendment” (Feb 7).
Columnists and article writers have been writing for the last many years that our present federating units (only four) are too big, and as such unmanageable and not easily approachable by the poor majority.
Also, each division in the provinces, existing since independence is devoid of people’s representation and as such is purely a bureaucratic set-up headed by a civil servant with full administrative secretariat but providing little access to the common man (in due course, as per government policy, these are to vanish).
The present regime has at last felt the necessity (but not the “urgency” - my comprehension) of upgrading the division to the status of a province / autonomous state with a small assembly comprising members elected from the “forme
