KARACHI, Feb 13: Karachi Nazim Naimatullah Khan has reiterated that he will ensure merit as the sole criterion in education and employment in Karachi.

The city Nazim, speaking at a 20th anniversary function of the Old Bawanians on Wednesday, regretted that the country till date had been denied a comprehensive and concrete education policy, consequently leading to breach among the nation.

Stressing that all-out efforts would be made for an across-the-board improvement in the quality of education imparted at government-controlled institutions as well as those run in the private sector, the Nazim said there would be no provision for self-financing schemes in educational-cum-professional training centres of the city.

He said the nationalized educational institutions in Karachi would be returned to their initial owners. However, it would be ensured that these were not turned into business ventures.

The Nazim was given Nishan-i-Tehseen by the Bawanians and Mohammad Asif Haroon was given the first Prof Masihuddin Siddiqui Gold Medal. —APP
