ISLAMABAD, Feb 12: An accountability court on Tuesday adjourned the hearing in the SGS reference for March 7 since the summons could not be served on former prime minister Benazir Bhutto and other co-accused in the case.

Benazir Bhutto was also required to appear before the court in the ARY Gold case along with Jens Schlegelmilch of Switzerland.

In the SGS reference, notices were issued to the officials of Messers SGS including Mr Hans Fisher, the vice-president, Mr Colin Robey, the then vice-president, Mr Oliver De Breakeleer, the then managing director, Mr Michael Lysewycs, the executive manager, Mr Michael Worrow, the operation manager, Mr David Murray, the operation manager, Mr William Boyd, the technical manager, Mr R Rijken, the manager and Ms Andrea Ralph, the manager.

Earlier, the court had directed Prosecutor General Raja Bashir to provide the mailing addresses of Ms Benazir Bhutto and A.R Siddiqui, the former chairman of central board of revenue (CBR) so that the court orders could be sent to them on the new addresses.

The summons were routed through the Registrar, Lahore High Court, and the Pakistani embassies after the addresses of the co- accused were provided to the court.

Meanwhile, in the ARY Gold case, the court again directed the prosecution to provide fresh address of Ms Bhutto, since the summons against Benazir Bhutto were sent at her Karachi address. A process server while appearing before the court recorded his statement in which he stated that he has been told that Ms Bhutto does not live in her Karachi residence.

The ARY Gold case pertains to awarding of monopolistic contract to the ARY Gold Traders for the import of gold and silver in Pakistan, which allegedly resulted in the loss of Rs1.82 billion to the government kitty during the period March 1995 to September 1997.

Meanwhile, another accountability court while sending Asif Zardari to judicial remand adjourned the proceedings in the BMW case for February 20.

Asif Zardari appeared on Tuesday in four cases including SGS, ARY Gold, BMW and Pakistan Steel mills case.

PPI adds: Meanwhile, Asif Ali Zardari, PPP’s jailed leader and spouse of Benazir Bhutto, has deputed Haji Nawaz Khokhar to pacify Iftikhar Gilani and others who left the party. Talking to Mr Khokhar outside the accountability court here on Tuesday Mr Zardari asked him to make bids to get back the senior PPP leader and former federal law minister Syed Iftikhar Hussein Gilani.

There are reports that in a bid to become contender for the top premier slot, Mr Gilani is likely to join the PML(QA).

Mr Zardari said Iftikhar Gilani was a well-known PPP leader and due to misunderstanding he left PPP. Asif termed this a conspiracy of some enemies against the party and vowed to foil such conspiracies. Later, Mr zardari said the PPP would not boycott the forthcoming general elections.
