Man killed, seven injured in dacoits’ firing
SUKKUR, Feb 11: A passenger was killed and seven others were injured when highwaymen attacked a convoy of buses escorted by police near Karampur, district Jacobabad, on Sunday night.
Reports reaching here said that a convoy of several buses accompanied by police was going to Karachi. When it reached near Laro Wah, Karampur, about 20 armed dacoits attacked and tried to stop the caravan but no one was hurt.
Later another group of dacoit attacked the convoy near village Shergarh village and opened indiscriminate firing as a result a passenger Mohammad Javed son of Mir Khan, resident of Peshawar, was killed and seven others were injured.
The injured were identified as Shahid son of Karam Khan, resident of Kark, Abdul Hakim, resident of Dera Ghazi Khan, Mohammad Jalal Baloch, resident of Rajanpur, Gul Wali, Ismail, Nisar and Amir Sultan, residents of Peshawar.
The passengers later blocked the Indus highway in protest against the police and demanded the arrest of the highway robbers.
Police officials reached on the spot and after negotiations the blockade ended.
BOOKS: The Education department, Sukkur, has chalked out a programme of free distribution of text books among 22,875 poor boys and girls students of primary level belonging to rural as well as urban areas of the district.
According to the EDO, education, Prof Rafia Naz Pathan, 2,200 sets of text books would be distributed among the students of Sukkur taluka, 9,000 sets in Rohri taluka, 8,000 sets in Pano Aqil taluka and 3,675 sets of books in Salehpat taluka.
KIDNAPPED: A Tapedar Khadim Hussain Mirani was kidnapped by armed men the other day from Kandhkot.
However, he was recovered through police efforts. When he was returning home, he was again kidnapped by the gang.
The cause of kidnapping is said to be a land dispute.
Meanwhile, a primary school teacher, Abdul Mujib, was kidnapped from the Tangwani police station jurisdiction of Kandhkot town on Sunday.
The teacher was opening his Kiryana shop in the morning in village Siraj Khoso, when the armed men kidnapped him on gun point.
VISIT: AIGP, Sukkur region, Nayyar Husnain has directed the DPOs of his region to take strong measures to control crime and ensure safety of road travel on the National Highway.
He visited various police stations and directed police not to detain innocent people.
