Dacoits take away Rs1m from bank

BAHAWALPUR, Feb 8: Three unidentified dacoits on Friday morning looted Rs1 million from the MCB’s Khairpur Tamewali branch.

Riding on two motorcycles, armed outlaws parked their two-wheelers outside the rural branch of Mauza Gurdawri, some 50 kilometres from here. One of the outlaws stood guard outside while two others entered the branch after snatching rifles from security guards at gunpoint. They locked the staff in the strong room, scooped cash and made good their escape.

Police have registered a case.

MONETARY AID: The Punjab government has not so far provided any grant to the local tehsil council which is facing financial crisis these days.

Dawn learnt here on Thursday that the tehsil council was currently depending on the income of the Bahawalpur Municipal Corporation which is also not financially sound to undertake any welfare projects.

The MC could hardly pay the salaries of hundreds of its employees including the sanitation staff.

If the provincial government failed to rescue the tehsil council, the municipal corporation will share equal disaster.
