By Our Correspondent

MARDAN, Feb 8: An official of the Bank of Khyber (BoK) foiled an attempt by bandits to loot cash from bank here on Friday.

According to sources, three armed bandits entered the bank while one of their accomplices stood guard outside. Bandits threatened the bank staff and demanded the cashier to hand over cash. They also asked other bank employees to hand over cash and valuables.

One of bandits hit the bank guard, Jehangir, with a pistol butt when he tried to resist the dacoity attempt. He received severe head injuries.

In the meantime, an official of the bank opened fire on the dacoits, hitting one of them, while the other three escaped unhurt, taking with them their injured accomplice. They could not take cash from the bank employees, it was learnt.

Other bank employees managed to overpower two of the fleeing bandits. However, the bank staff and police officials were reluctant to disclose to their names. It was learnt that the dacoits belonged to Parachinar, Kurram Agency, but it could not be confirmed.
