LARKANA, Feb 8: The chief commercial manager (CCM) and divisional commercial officer (DCO) of Railways met the representatives of the Sindh Baluchistan Rice Millers and Traders Association (SBRMTA) and the Larkana Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LACC&I) on Wednesday.

Gada Hussain Mahiser, the president of the SBRMTA, and Anwer Shaikh, the president the LCC&I, demanded of the railway to provide at least 60 wagons per day to transport Paddy from Larkana to Karachi for export.

Mr Mahiser said that the paddy stations of Larkana, Shahdadkot, Kashmor, Garhi Khero, Badah had the capacity of sending 25 to 30 wagons of paddy in a single day.

The CCM, Nazeer Hussain, said the locomotive production had reduced from 20 to three per year in the country, and the Pakistan Railway could not provide small number of goods wagons.

The traders’ organizations pressed for transparent go-downs arrangements at Karachi and arranging wagons at reduced fare. The CCM and the DCO said that with in a week a report would be conveyed to the representatives for further negotiations.

Both bodies of the business community emphasized the need of introducing a fast train between Jacobabad and Karachi after restructuring the earlier composition of trains running on this route.

They said around 46 transport coaches are originating from Larkana for Karachi alone in day. In this regards the proposals have been forwarded to the Headquarters of the DCO Sukkur and he was optimistic that soon a fast train would be started on this route.
