KARACHI: Loudspeakers use in mosques: a clarification

KARACHI, Feb 8: The president’s announcement about the use of loudspeakers in his Jan 12 address to the nation has been misinterpreted by some quarters, a Sindh police spokesman said on Friday.

The spokesman said the use of loudspeakers in mosques was permitted for Khutba (in Arabic) and Waaz (in Urdu) before Friday prayers and only Azan for the rest of the week.

It was, however, pointed out that the contents of the Waaz (in Urdu) should not include any element leading to sectarian feelings or that might arouse hatred against any class or sect.

“The mosque may also not be allowed to be used for political objectives and any violation in this regard will not be tolerated,” the spokesman said.—APP
