KARACHI: Local govt officials’ posts redesignated

KARACHI, Feb 8: The Sindh government has redesignated the posts of directors and assistant directors of local government as local government support officers, following restructuring of the department under the devolution of power plan.

In the previous setup, DLGs and ADLGs used to coordinate with local councils but with the abolition of divisional cadre, these posts became redundant. However, in view of the new system, establishment of a support, liaison and coordination office at the district level was needed, official sources said on Friday.

The redesignation of the posts was approved recently at a meeting chaired by the provincial minister for local government Dewan Mohammad Yousuf Farooqui.

The support officers will work as an interface between local and district governments, town municipal and union administrations, besides extending field support to the local government commission in conduct of annual/special audits and inspections as inquiring into the complaints, compile information on all tiers of the local government and coordinate between them.

A total of 37 posts have been redesignated of which five posts of DLGs (BPS-18) have been redesignated as LGSO for the defunct divisional headquarters, 11 posts of ADLGs out of 16 are being redesignated as LGSO (BPS-17) for remaining districts headquarters, while another five posts of ADLGs are being redesignated to meet the needs of LG commission.—PPI
