Two remanded in police custody

By A Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Feb 7: Judicial Magistrate Malik Abdul Qayum remanded two accused, allegedly involved in the abduction of the American journalist Daniel Pearl, to the I-9 police for three days on Thursday.

The accused, Nasir Mehmood and Ijaz, were arrested from Murree the other day for allegedly having links with the people believed to have abducted the journalist.

Sources close to the police informed that both of the accused were shifted to a safe house in Islamabad where local and foreign law enforcement bodies were questioning them.

The sources were confident that the ongoing inquiries would bust the gang stated to have kidnapped the US journalist associated with the Wall Street Journal “if he himself has not gone underground for the reasons best known to himself”.

Some unconfirmed reports on Thursday evening said several police parties working in close coordination with the FBI conducted raids at several points in the capital and adjoining areas and made some arrests.
