PESHAWAR, Feb 7: Police have claimed to have killed three robbers in an encounter on Wednesday night.

The dacoits had killed a villager before the encounter with police.

Police said the dacoits sneaked into the house of Sanober Khan in Acher village near Badbre. Residents opened fire on the robbers who also resorted to firing and injured Sanober. He later succumbed to his wounds in Lady Reading Hospital.

Soon after the firing some villagers informed the Bhana Mari Police Station about the incident by telephone. A police party rushed to the venue, and besieged the area. The police exchanged fire with the robbers for more than one hour, and killed them on the spot. They were identified as Said Gul, Shakeel and Mirza.

Police said the dacoits were Afghans, and their bodies had been shifted to Khyber Medical College.
