Two drug smugglers sentenced to death

ATTOCK, Feb 7: Additional District and Session Judge, Mirza Rafi-uz-Zaman has awarded capital punishment to two drug smugglers.

The court gave verdict in 49 cases during the last two months. Two persons, including a drug smuggler, were awarded death sentence and three persons including two drug smugglers were awarded life imprisonment.

Collectively, a sum of Rs 1,947,000 was imposed on drug smugglers including four women.

Convict Syed Muhammad son of Aslam Khan Afridi of Bara was awarded death sentence and a fine of rupees one million. In a case of drug smuggling two accused, Saeed Khan and Mohammad Shah of Peshawar were awarded life imprisonment and a fine of 100,000 each.

In other cases, Yasmin Khan wife of Juma Khan resident of Chamkani, Peshawar, was awarded one and half year imprisonment and 10,000 rupees fine.

In another drug smuggling case, accused Maryam Maseeh wife of Tariq Maseeh resident of Bus Stand Lahore was awarded eight months imprisonment and 5,000 rupees fine.

Ms Rashida daughter of Sher Gul resident of Muhalla Bhana, Peshawar, was released on one year probation.

Anwar Ali son of Sherdad, resident of Takht Bhai, was awarded three- year imprisonment and 10,000 rupees fine. Aqil Mahmood son of Abdul Malik resident of Saidhan and Mohammad Azam son of Mohammad Arif, resident of Attock were awarded three years imprisonment and 25,000 rupees fine each.

Sher Ali son of Spain Ali, resident of Khyber Agency, Anwar Ali son of Syed Nawab, have been awarded two-and-half-year imprisonment and 25,000 rupees fine each.

Mohammad Aslam son of Moosa Khan, resident of Naushahra, was awarded two-and-half-year imprisonment and 15,000 rupees fine. Mahboob Khan son of Abdul Manan, resident of tribal areas, Rahim Gul son of Mohammad Niaz, resident of Khyber Agency, Roghan Shah son of Hameed Shah, resident of Attock, were awarded two-year imprisonment and 25,000 rupees fine.

Ahmad Khan son of Sher Gul was awarded two-year imprisonment and 15,000 rupees fine. Alam Jan son of Mushtaq Jan, resident of Nasir Bagh, Peshawar, was awarded two-year imprisonment and 20,000 rupees fine.

Awal Badshah son of Mohammad Shah, resident of Peshawar, was awarded two-year imprisonment and 20,000 rupees fine.—PPI
