KARACHI: Bio-gas plant planned in city

KARACHI, Feb 7: The city government is considering entering into an agreement with an international company for the establishment of a bio-gas plant near the Cattle Colony in the city, sources in the Karachi district city government said here on Thursday.

According to them, the plant is envisaged to generate electricity and gas together with producing fertilizer. This would create jobs.

A team of experts from New Zealand working as consultants, in collaboration with a local company, NEC, met the city Nazim and briefed him on the scheme.

The city Nazim, Naimatullah Khan, was informed that a bio-gas plant could be successfully put into operation near the Cattle Colony with estimated provision for 200,000 cattle where the required animal refuse would be available.

They said the plant would also help improve sanitation at the Cattle Colony. The city Nazim assured them of all necessary support for the project, and said he was committed to seek maximum investment in Karachi.—APP
