Elite Force officer shot dead

By Our Correspondent

JHANG, Feb 4: The Elite Force in charge was shot dead by two unidentified motorcyclists near the TB Hospital here on Monday evening.

Inspector Muhammad Jamil was on his way home in the Satellite Town area along with his friend, Mazhar, by a car. Near the TB Hospital on Gojra Road, he stopped to get his car refuelled when two motorcyclists appeared and opened fire on him killing him on the spot. Later, they fired at Mazhar but he escaped unhurt and the bullet hit an employee of the filling station, Tabassam, injuring him critically.

When the assailants were trying to flee, Mazhar caught their motorcycle. They fired more shots at him but luckily he again escaped unhurt.

In the meantime, both the assailants fell from the motorcycle and disappeared in a nearby street firing shots in the air. Injured Tabassam was admitted to hospital in serious condition.

Inspector Jamil was a resident of Warriyamwala, Shorkot tehsil, and was married some three years ago.

In 1999, when he was posted as Langrana SHQ, he had killed Ejaz bearing a headmoney of Rs2 million and Tariq Tippu with a headmoney of Rs500,000, both Lashkar-i-Jhangvi men, in an encounter. He was also instrumental in the arrest of another Lashkar man, Kashif, after an encounter.
