HYDERABAD: Three found in illegal detention

By Our Correspondent

HYDERABAD, Feb 4: Three persons were found in illegal detention at the Hatri police station on Monday during a raid by the civil judge, conducted under the orders of Session Judge.

Ms Ashraf Khatoon had sent telegrams to the Member Inspection Team of the Sindh High Court, requesting for the release of her son Ghaus Bux. Ali Ahmed Jan, sixth extra joint civil judge, conducted a raid at the police station and found the three persons. No entry or record was available in the station diary about the arrests of these three persons.

The statements of detainees were recorded and the judge directed the police to produce them before the Session Judge on Wednesday.

Apart from the applicant’s son Ghaus Bux, the two other detainees were Bukshal Jatoi and Muneer Jatoi.

Meanwhile, a press release issued by the police on Monday night claimed that Ghaus Bux and three others had beaten Pesh Imam Haji Taj Mohammad in the area of Hatri police station.

The police went there and found Bukshal, Muneer Jatoi and Ghaus Bux Jatoi. They were found in possession of one 12-bore rifle and one TT pistol.

The accused were just brought to the police station when the civil judge visited the police station. Since no entries were made in the station diary, the judge ordered their release.

The ASI was directed to appear before the court on Feb 6.

Bail pleas: The Anti-Terrorism Court, Hyderabad, here on Monday adjourned the announcement of order in bail applications of Bashir Khan Qureshi, chairman, Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz, Dr Niaz Kalani, Zafar Meerani and Zawar Ghulam Hyder.

Qureshi and Kalani were facing trial in two separate cases of bomb blasts. The cases were lodged after one person was killed and 25 others were injured in two separate bomb explosions on Nov 25, 1998, in Hyderabad when the JSQM had given a call for strike against the usurpation of resources of Sindh by Punjab.

The court also adjourned the bail applications filed on behalf of Zafar Meerani and Zawar Ghulam Hyder to Wednesday. Ayaz Hussain Tunio and Ahmed Ali Sheikh are representing the accused respectively.

The case against them was lodged at the Qasimabad police station after Alam Baloch and his gunman were gunned down on Sept 18, 1997, at Wadhuwah by two unidentified armed motorcyclists.
