KARACHI, Feb 4: Sindh National Front Chairman Mumtaz Ali Bhutto has called for shunting out corrupt police officers and giving double pay and allowances to common policemen instead of appointing more additional inspectors-general and separating investigation from prosecution.

In a statement here on Monday, the SNF leader claimed that the appointment of more AIGs and separation of investigation from prosecution would only add to confusion and bribery.

According to him, all the reforms and policies, including the new District Government system, have failed because of corruption and presence of incompetent and unqualified political appointees in every department of government.

He said that in the first place government departments needed to be cleansed of the corrupt and inefficient and the competent be appointed as only then could reforms become successful.

Mr Bhutto said lawlessness had increased because of corruption and the indifferent attitude of police “whose attention is focused only on victimization of the innocent people and extortion from them.”

He was of the opinion that law and order could be restored within a fortnight, if police performed their duties with honesty and devotion. A mere increase in the number of high officials would never produce the desired results, he said.
