FAISALABAD, Jan 31: The meeting of the city tehsil municipal administration was adjourned on Thursday amid scuffles and rowdyism.
The meeting was called for reviewing the performances of TMA committees for launching cleanliness campaign and operation against encroachments in the city.
Immediately after the start of the meeting, a group of councillors, headed by Naib Nazims Aftab Ahmed and Muhammad Arif, started shouting and blaming the chair for nominating favourites as heads and members of committees. They also alleged that the City Nazim, Naib Nazim and some members of the house were involved in corruption.
The supporters of City Nazim Mumtaz Ali Cheema also started using objectionable language for the protesters councillors.
Some councillors also tried to misbehave with one another.
Despite repeated requests by City Naib Nazim Ilyas Ahmed Ansari, the councillors did not sit on their seats and continued demanding cancellation of the orders of nominating some councillors as chairmen of committees.
Mr Ansari adjourned the meeting but the councillors were seen exchanging hot words with one another.
Meanwhile, the District Council decided on Thursday to hold elections for the 33 standing committees on Feb 4.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the council held at the Punjab Medical College auditorium. District Naib Nazim Muhammad Afzal Sahi presided over the meeting which also passed a number of resolutions.
It was decided that each standing committee would have 11 members — 7 general councillors 4 elected against reserved seats. Candidate securing highest voters would be the chairman of the committee.
Nomination papers would be received at the office of the returning officer in the District Council Rest House till Feb 2.
