AJK cabinet body okays uplift plans

MUZAFFARABAD, Jan 31: The AJK cabinet development committee on Thursday approved Rs3.130 billion development schemes in communications, hydel power, education, information technology, rural development and planning sectors.

An amount of Rs198.8 million was allocated for the purchase of heavy machinery to construct roads, Rs53 million for the construction of 20km-long Khaigalla-Banjosa-Tarakhal Road and Rs61.7 million to repair and improve 25km-long Arja-Tain Dhalkot Road in Poonch.

In the hydel power generation sector, Rs49.1 million was sanctioned for the preliminary stage of a hydel power project in Gulpur of the Kotli district.

An amount of Rs44.5 million was sanctioned for the construction of additional accommodation with 11 high schools each for boys and girls in the Bagh district, Rs159.2 million for the provision of technical teachers and establishment of workshops in 38 boys and 32 girls high and higher secondary schools in the AJK.

The committee approved Rs77.1 million to prepare an IT master project, Rs49.2 million for an IT teachers’ training project and Rs111.8 for the establishment of IT institutions in the seven AJK districts.

It allocated Rs52.3 million for the area development programme and Rs2.270 billion for the provision of potable water, construction of link roads and suspension bridges, health and sanitation, sewerage and other schemes for the development of the rural areas under the local government and rural development department.

The meeting was presided over by the AJK prime minister.
