KARACHI: Reckless driving claims 4 lives: Nine cars, twelve bikes hijacked

KARACHI, Jan 31: Reckless driving claimed four lives in the city on Thursday.

The police said that a 12-year-old boy, Abdul Khalique, was run over by a minibus of route U-1 (JE-2174) in Kalri. He was rushed to Civil Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. The police claimed to have arrested the driver of the minibus.

An unidentified young girl died in a road accident in Saeedabad. The police said that the unidentified girl was crushed to death beneath the wheels of a coach (PE-4391) while walking across a road. The body was sent to Civil Hospital for post-mortem, the police said.

A vendor was knocked down by a minibus (JE-1848) at the Nipa traffic intersection in Gulshan-i-Iqbal.

The police said that Nisar Ahmed, aged 40, was knocked down by a minibus of route G-3 (JE-1848) at Nipa. He died on the spot. The body was sent to the JPMC for post-mortem.

The police claimed to have arrested the driver of the minibus.

A man died in a road accident in Garden police limits. The police said that Qurban Ali was run over by a bus near Seventh Day Hospital. The victim was rushed to Civil Hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

CARJACKING: Twenty-one vehicles — Nine cars and 12 motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Thursday, the police said.

Five cars were hijacked. Four others were stolen. Four motorcycles were hijacked. Eight others were stolen.

The police also claimed on Thursday to have recovered four vehicles— (GS-0130, KAF-9466, KCT-7850, and KCI-379) — in the city.

ASPHYXIATED: Three labourers died when the inhaled a toxic gas in an underground oil tank in Pak Colony on Thursday.

The police said that three men, Maqbool, Azizullah and Rauf, were cleaning an underground oil tank in a sub-standard oil-manufacturing factory where they inhaled a toxic gas and fell unconscious.

When the second shift came to the factory, they found the three men lying dead in the tank. The bodies were sent to Civil Hospital for post-mortem, the police said.

KILLED: A suspected burglar was killed on early Thursday morning by the owner of a shopping centre in Naval Colony in the limits of Mochkoh police.
