Police win suit to wear beards

NEWARK (USA), Jan 31: Muslim police in Newark have won the right to keep wearing their beards on duty after a federal religious discrimination lawsuit was settled on Wednesday, a US Justice Department spokesman said.

The Justice Department filed the lawsuit against the city in May 2000, alleging the city threatened 10 Muslim officers with termination, transferred them to undesirable assignments and denied them opportunities to work special overtime events.”—Reuters
