KARACHI, Jan 30: Industrialists and traders of Landhi Industrial Area have presented a memorandum to Sindh Governor, Muhammad Mian Soomro and apprised him of the infrastructure problems being faced by them, during his visit of the area day earlier.

In the memorandum, attention of Sindh has been drawn towards the dilapidated roads, sewerage system, water shortage, encroachments and telephones problems. The industrial area of Landhi contributes about 70 per cent of the country’s total exports from the country, it added.

The governor was told about the miserable condition of the area and was informed that LIA, one of the largest industrial estate with more than 100 large scale manufacturing units, was still devoid of proper infrastructure, including roads, sewerage, street-lights and water supply. Besides encroachments in the vicinity have marred the beauty of the area.

The memorandum, presented by Ghulam Ali Muhammad, Chairman, Landhi Association of Trade and Industry, and Naeem Ilyas Khanani, Secretary Information, stated that most of roads in the limits of this estate, which caters to the export needs, were in a dilapidated condition and leave a poor impression on foreign buyers who visit these factories.

Taking the foreign buyers to the factories is an arduous task for the factory owners. The road which leads from Dawood Chowrangi to DMC East was in a pitiable condition with large craters on it.

Another road which leads from Dawood Chowrangi to Nagaria Textile Mills and Gul Ahmed Textile Mills is completely damaged and has not been repaired by the authorities for a long time. While the area opposite to these mills needs to be put in a decent shape.

Al-Karam/Hussain Road is in an extremely bad condition while work on Mehran Highway is also at standstill.—PPI
