KARACHI, Jan 29: The foundation-stones of the Lyari Expressway and the Northern Bypass will be laid on 23rd March this year, said Nazim Karachi, Naimatullah Khan,

He expressed the hope that both the projects would be completed in three years.

Speaking at a meeting held at the City Government Secretariat here on Tuesday to review the grievances presented by the transporters of Karachi, he said that after the completion of these projects a number of problems faced by transporters would be solved, as most heavy traffic, including oil tankers, will not pass through the city .

The meeting was informed that the Pakistan State Oil and the Shell Pakistan had established institutes for training drivers.

The meeting was attended by DCO Karachi Shafiqur Rehman Paracha, Brig Ayaz Pir of the Army Supporting Team, DIG Traffic Saud Mirza, SSP Traffic, and the representatives of transporters.

The Nazim said that the city government was trying to facilitate the citizens of Karachi through good governance, and one of the basic needs of the city was the improvement of the Karachi traffic.

He said that a high-level committee would be formed to improve the traffic system in Karachi.

The committee would comprise transporters, oil companies and officials of the city government. —PPI
