KARACHI, Jan 29: The city government on Tuesday constituted a three-member committee entrusted with the task of preparing a report suggesting measures to improve the medical facilities at the Leprosy Hospital Manghopir.
The committee would comprise the EDO finance, the EDO health and the EDO works.
The committee was set up by city Nazim Naimautullah Khan during his visit to the hospital to mark the World Leprosy Day.
During his visit the Nazim took notice of the shortage of water at the hospital and announced the donation of Rs300,000 on behalf of the Al-Khidmat Welfare Society.
He also announced that ten sewing machines would be distributed among deserving women on behalf of the Al-Khidmat Khawateen Trust.
Naimatullah said steps would be taken to make the hospital a model in the light of the recommendation of the committee. He said the city government would also take steps for the rehabilitation of leprosy patients.
Medical superintendent of the hospital, Dr Mohammed Ali, said 47,000 people were suffering from leprosy in the country.
