KARACHI, Jan 29: Sindh education minister Prof Anita Ghulam Ali has said 1,240 teachers will be recruited in the province to help meet the shortage of faculty members in the colleges.

Addressing students after inaugurating a computer lab at Islamia College here on Tuesday, she said the Sindh Public Service Commission had been recommended to recruit 1,240 college teachers. An announcement would soon be made for further recruitment of 1,245 teachers in the province, she added.

Prof Anita asked the students to attain expertise in the field of Information Technology and gather information from around the world through the internet.

She was of the view that female students and women should be encouraged so that they could fully benefit from the modern technology.

She said the government had allocated substantial number of vacancies for women as compared to the past.

Ms Anita said the government was also initiating steps for the betterment of women, besides helping them get jobs and acquire education.

She stated that for the improvement of education, the services of retired and experienced teachers were being acquired by the government.

The minister distributed certificates among those students who got positions in examinations, sports, debate and naats.

She promised that steps would be taken to help resolve the problems being faced by the college such as shortage of teachers, initiation of science classes and construction of an auditorium etc.—APP
