KARACHI: Illegal hydrants in Old Golimar

KARACHI, Jan 29: Business of illegal hydrants has reached its peak in Old Golimar at Gutter Baghicha and just behind Trance-Lyari Park, as more than 100 illegal hydrants have been established by residents in their houses, shops and workshops, earning money by selling contaminated water to tanker operators, area people said.

They said previously only 12 illegal hydrants were operating but their number had increased.

The trade continues at the rate of Rs300 to Rs500 per tanker with the supply of contaminated water to citizens. The water tankers operating round-the-clock in the area are becoming cause of accidents as at least three people were killed and several seriously injured recently due to rash driving.—PPI
