Notice issued to SSP in contempt case

Published January 29, 2002

LAHORE, JAN 28: Mr Justice Khwaja Muhammad Sharif of the Lahore High Court issued a notice to the Senior Superintendent of Police, Lahore, on Monday to appear on Tuesday in the suo motu reference against the Health Department secretary.

The Lahore district magistrate had directed the SSP on June 27 last year to arrest Dr Nadeem Afzal and Dr Muhammad Afzal in pursuance of LHC orders.

The LHC had ordered the doctors’ arrest after the Supreme Court upheld their convictions for issuing false medical reports but reduced the sentence to rigorous imprisonment for one year. None of them was, however, arrested by the police. The convicts were also reported to drawing salaries from the exchequer.
