LARKANA, Jan 28: The Larkana district council in a unanimously passed resolution on Monday demanded of the government to extend the date of verification of voters list at least by one month.

Aijaz Leghari moving the motion said that the verification of the voters list had been delayed already for around 15 days due to strike of the primary teachers working as enumerators and supervisors.

The Nazims Abdul Qadir Sangi, Mohammed Hayat Shaikh, Barkat Shaikh, Niaz Chandio, Mohib Pirzado and other others pointed towards the gross mistakes in the existing voters lists whereas the non- availability of the correction forms with the local election commission office had further complicated the situation.

They also decried over the unnecessary delay in issuing the National Identity Cards in Sindhi language.

Apprising the members of the district council, the Zila Nazim said that work on 141 water supply and drainage schemes in the district would start by the last week of Feb for which Rs65 million had been earmarked.

Around 70 kilometres of roads under the rehabilitation plan would be repaired, benefiting about 100 villages in the district, with the cost of Rs11.8 million. Sixty rural union councils in the district had been selected for constructing Pacca water courses and 22 kilometre road from Dost Ali to Khando would be constructed.

SESSION BOYCOTTED: A group of Naib Nazims (members of taluka council, Dokri) on Monday boycotted the session of the taluka council after they received threats from taluka Nazim.

Imamuddain Sario, Naib Nazim, Baggi, told this scribe on Monday that the taluka Nazim, Aijaz Junijo, was illegally collecting tax from their union councils. He said the local government ordinance does not permit taluka Nazim to collect taxes from union councils. Only respective union councils could impose and collect taxes, he added.

The councilors Aijaz Khaskheli, Mohammed Yusuf, Ashique Junijo, Mohammed Essa Khokhar, Jan Mohammed Brohi and Ms Ashraf Abro boycotted the session and alleged that taluka Nazim was interfering in their union councils’ affairs.
